ACE Addendum

The ACE Race operates under the rules and guidelines of the Electrathon American Handbook.  Participating teams must fill out an ACE Race Intent to Compete Form and register as members of Electrathon America.  Click here for Electrathon America membership form.


The ACE Race is an academic event intended for institutions that engage in STEM or CTE curriculum.  The following addendum to vehicle classes and additional rules for participation in ACE Race.


Vehicle Classes:

A) AeroKit Class

  1. Open to high school teams only
  2. Must be competing an Aerocoupe kit with roll cage addition
  3. No modifications, besides roll cage addition. Must use all parts that come with the kit. 
  4. Must use lead acid batteries

B) Advanced Design Class

  1. Student designed vehicles
  2. Designs must follow Electrathon America rules for dimensions and safety with the addition of roll cage
  3. Design modification drawings must be submitted before Jan 31. 

C) Novice Class

  1. First-time AeroKit participants
  2. New school, new district, new team


Roll Cage:

  1. All vehicles must be equipped with a roll cage that provides rigid protection encompassing the entire driver in the event of a collision. The roll cage shall be a fixed, integral part of the vehicle structure.


Inspection Station:

  1.  Student Presentation Required. Students will be asked to explain the following during inspections: how the motor controller functions; the Ackerman Steering geometry; the safety shut-off system
  2. Students may be asked other questions regarding the mechanical and electrical aspects of the vehicle.
  3. Mandatory Driver Practice. For safety, all drivers must have 10 laps on the track with their cars prior to the official competition.
